The three trimesters
What changes, and when
Each trimester brings its own milestones. Calendars are approximate: every pregnancy follows its own pace, and your care team will confirm dates with ultrasounds.
First trimester
Weeks 1 to 13. The embryo forms its main organs, and many people notice fatigue, nausea, or breast tenderness. Your first prenatal appointment and blood tests usually happen here.
Second trimester
Weeks 14 to 27. Movements are often felt, and the anatomy ultrasound is typically scheduled around weeks 20 to 25. Many people find energy returns during this period.
Third trimester
Weeks 28 to birth. Baby continues to grow and settle into position. Planning for birth, the maternity bag, and questions to ask your team become more useful now.

Is light exercise safe?
For most uncomplicated pregnancies, gentle walking and swimming are generally encouraged. Ask your doctor or midwife which activities suit you.
When should I register for prenatal care?
In France, the first prenatal visit is recommended as early as possible in pregnancy, and a declaration of pregnancy is made to your health insurance and the departmental council.
Who can I ask about symptoms?
Any change that worries you deserves a call to your midwife, doctor, or maternity team. This guide cannot assess your individual symptoms.
